Stormy Weather

Wind and Waves, Young's Bay, Astoria, Oregon May 19, 2010

It's rare to see Young's Bay whipped into such a frenzy. The waves are not huge, but . . .

Stormy Weather on Young's Bay, Astoria, Oregon . . . since this is a river bay with a limited distance for the wind to create waves, it's not every day that we see them like this. I liked this angle with the sun on spring poppies and the winter-like storm.

I prefer the moodiness of the first shot... it almost looks like a b&w but for the greenery up front. Interesting to see the river in such non-river state.

looks like conditions suitably for writing a poem about turbulent moods.

Poppies right on the seafront. Never seen that before! ;-)
I love stormy seas, you've got its choppiness (real word?) so well, especially in the first shot.

It's great to be safe on steady ground watching this. Wonderful image!

I love the water - rivers, bays and oceans. But they all have fearsome power and your pictures give a glimpse of that fearsomeness. Scary! I would not want to be out on it for anything.

The term 'blustery' comes to mind.

It was like this here too. Every twenty minutes the weather changed all day long. First sun, then wind and unbelievable rain. It was really something. Thanks for braving the elements Sheryl.

Our weather extremes weren't as severe as those on the coast, but WOW what a storm!!!

I didn't know poppies grew on the coast either. See? I learned something new today!
