Irving Ave

Street name stamped in the corner at Irving and 11th Streets, Astoria, Oregon April 6, 2010

I wish the corner at 11th and Irving could stay just this way. It's interesting, and you can still walk on it. But someday it will fall apart and be replaced. I just hope they re-stamp the street names in the corners. I don't remember seeing this in other towns, and I like it. It also keeps history alive; I know at least one place where the street name has changed, but the corner still shows the old name.

I wish street names were even more creative. I like how streets are named after notables. forget 1st -99th or A-Z. Btw., a great post focusing oon such detail to provole thought.

Yep, I hope they re-stamp it. Here in Portland lots of corners have been redone, with the first date and the new date stamped in them. And I've seen one street name on the sidewalk that was different from the street name on the sign, all at the same corner in SE Portland. I love this sort of thing.

So sad that these are crumbling away. But I am happy that you have documented it forever!!!
