I've always liked this antique building that sells antiques on Marine Drive. I'm not sure if it's open for business. I think it's been closed for a very long time, but if anyone knows, I'm interested. I could try to notice next time I go by. If I remember, it used to look closed even when it was open.

I like the details, like the odd-shaped windows and those things with the flowers. Deco decor, I would imagine. The front door, such as it is, is around to the right on Marine drive. What you see here is a paved alley.

Posey Reed

Among the newer businesses in town is Posey Reed, selling antiques and collectibles on Commercial Street. Note the spring flowers. Yes, it is finally happening!

Dressed for the Fest

In the window of The Troll's Nook in Astoria (on 12th Street between Marine Drive and Commercial), you can find a crab-patterned bib that will keep your shirt clean while you pull your dinner apart at the Crab and Seafood Festival with gloved fingers and a wooden block. Allen, one of the owners, can be see inside the store on the left. The crab on top of the gold lamé head came from my store, and it was funny how it happened. The owners searched the Internet for plastic crabs, and where in the world do you think they found them? Two blocks away in Astoria! I hand-delivered the merchandise, and that's how we met.

The decor and featured items, of course, are in keeping with the weekend's crab and seafood festivities. I'll be watching this window for more fun displays as the seasons and events roll through Astoria.

Old cannery scale

This old scale and the view are just a couple of the things I enjoy about the Pier 39 building, which used to be the Bumblebee Canning Company. The doores to the left take you into a comfy, atmospheric and much-loved coffe house called Coffee Girl, where treats (scones, lox and bagels, fruit/granola parfait with lox on the side - yumm) are served along with one of my favorite cups of coffee. It's the original place where coffee was served to the cannery workers. We'll be back, don't worry. Here are some other posts featuring Pier 39 and Coffee Girl. The inside of Pier 39 is essentially a roofed-over outdoor museum. I hope it never changes much. Thank you, Floyd!
