There's always one day when the air first feels like fall, and for me, yesterday was it. I can't quite describe it. I've seen the signs for weeks: the one clump of yellow leaves on a broad-leafed green tree, the flowers dying, rain, a drop in the temperature (with intermittent days of heat). We're supposed to have temps in the low 80s again next week, which is warm for Astoria. And still, yesterday was the day I felt the season change.
I actually took this photo a few days ago in front of the Wet Dog Cafe along the River Walk. Beyond the bushes, you can see the railing of Doc's on 12th, the home of Baked Alaska, Mise en Place, Xclusive Salon, and other cool places.

These butterfly bushes look as though they're about spent for the season. They are sooooo fragrant. You are right though. You feel that certain something in the air, you notice it begin to get dark a little earlier than it did just a week or two ago. Like it or not, here it comes.
To answer your question regarding the Velib' bikes in Paris, they have a placeon the bike racks where you swipe a card. I believe you can use a credit card or you can buy prepaid Velib' cards for a very reasonable rate! Neat huh? :)
What a nice blog you have. LOVELY photos.

Few days of rain did nothing to our summer, temperature now is lower and reasonable but the weather is still good.
I was browsing around your blogs and I was wondering if you knew that the Tapiro d'Oro (Gold Tapir) is a feared prize given in Italy to famous people for awful public gaffes. Since 1996 more than 600 had been given...
A very lovely shot, Sheryl. For some reason I can feel the fall air, too!
When we lived in South Florida, we experienced very little in the way of seasonal change. It did get cooler during the winter, but that's about it.
In Ocala, there is a definite change and we feel a bit of it now...the sun is not so high in the sky, the grass grows more slowly, and within a month, we'll see a slight change in the color of some leaves...
It ain't much, but it's better than nothing!
Thank you very much for your kind comment on the post re: Mary Travers!
nice shot. I like the ship in the distance and the piling in the foreground
I liked the story of your discovery of our Tapiro. They sell it online now, but I don't know if they would ship abroad.
Yes, they still go on, there is a list on Wikipedia of the 'attapirati'.
