Rooftops and river

I took this photo with a long lens from a friend's back deck, but if you'd like, you can imagine I was flying over Astoria like a bird. This is one of the central downtown locations. Some of the buildings have already appeared in this blog, and others will appear in time. The gray wood-shingled building with white window trim appeard in this post, while the building to the right of it can be seen here and will appear again in tomorrow's post. The Liberty Theatre, with the red tile roof, was the setting for the concert with Sergey Antonov and the post with the lighting fixture in the ceiling. The river is the Columbia, the street on the left running toward the water is 12th Street, where Sunday Market is held, and the street intersecting it is Marine Drive.

Happy Scenic Sunday, everyone.

I have just walked down Marine Street with the little man of Gooogle Maps, but he sticks to the avenues and takes no streets. I saw the first building and the theater from afar. The weather is a bit overcast so I'm back to your post, which is really better than Googleland. The river is more impressive against the buildings: it looks so huge...

Don't you wish we could fly every now and then?! ;-) I like this general view and your explanations bring it alive!

Interesting shot as you were flying along. Don't fall out of the sky. MB

You've had some interesting perspectives lately--nice job.

By the way, TriMet's Green Line MAX will begin service on 9/12/2009, going from Portland State north to Union Station using the Transit Mall on SW 5th and 6th, then east to 205 and then south to Clackamas Town Center. Thought you'd want to know.

Funny how a long lenses compressed distance.

I tried imagining you as a bird flying over Astoria but it was hard! What kind of bird? How fast were you flying? Did you run into any other birds? How did you carry your camera?

See, it's confusing.

I know, I'm for the birds!

Lovely shot, actually, and I hope you have a a great week in that beautiful paradise called Astoria!

I like all the geometrical shapes of the roof, especially the triangles. Sheryl you have artistically shown a unique perspective. Thanks...

I was curious how you managed to take this photo. :-)

The house on the far left looks like a nice beach house but the rest look like downtown concrete warehouses.
