There's something serene and peaceful about a place where you can see that what used to be there at one time is now gone. Maybe it's a touch of nostalgia, or maybe the place looks better with the "thing," whatever it was, fading away. Maybe both. Much of the pier has fallen away since I arrived here in 2001. I remember an old house trailer sitting to the left of the main dock on what is now just a flimsy, crumbling remnant of a platform. The scene definitely looks better without the trailer! I wonder if it fell in, or if they took it away. There seems to be an intense sensation of open space on this part of the River Walk.

I like the reference you make about a 'touch of nostalgia'. Yes, indeed, now that you mention it that way...it IS!!!
My Wordful is all about something that was 'taken from our yard'. But at our request. Happy Wednesday to you.
It is peaceful and restful and brings on nostalgia ... things missing. I like the idea that this will all rot and the bay will be empty ... in Australia there is a coastline that has monoliths that are gradually being worn away. They are called the Twelve Apostles. Not sure how many are left now.
I love this, the diagonal lines and texture of the pier. The barbed fence, in an ironic way, pulls you in and beckons you to go beyond.
Nice picture for the theme day. And by the way, thank for visiting my Paris blog.
Cheers !
Lovely, heartfelt thoughts behind this photo. Beautiful photo, too.

Not only is that 'empty' but lonesome as well. MB
I really forgot about theme day. I did remember too late. I couldn't figure out how to photograph my memory so that would have to be what I would have posted. LOL
I do like the photo you posted and the bridge in the background is nice. Your camera did a good job on depth of field.
Thanks too for visiting my blog.
Always amazes me the mood a picture can capture. . .It speaks without saying a word. . .thanks for sharing and have a great week!
Great find. That door to nowhere looks very puzzling and make the mind wonder! Looks like a natural disaster aftermath - it is good to know it is just a man made disaster :)
I love this photo. Thanks for sharing.
What a lovely capture of mood. Very serene.
This is a wonderful image. My compliments.
great shot
I like your dedication to one shot a day... i often shoot every day but its the post and getting everything ready that is quite time consuming.
*applause* :) Im impressed.

It's sad in a way but that's life. Good shot for today.
Just gorgeous, as always!!!
Nice entry for theme day. A scene like this doesn't evoke nostalgia in me. It just looks like it has fallen on hard times; it evokes a feeling of sadness for what has been lost.
Sheryl, I think this is my favorite of yours to date it is wonderful and moody and detailed!
Hope you got your web issues worked out!
Great post...your photo reminds me of many places in Cedar Key and other areas of Florida where hurricanes have, through the years, simply destroyed what was once sturdy and active piers and marinas.
With the slove reverting back to nature, the picture looks so serene...mayle it is the slow pace that adds to the serenity.
Good theme shot.

Nice choice for the theme day, very appropriate!
This reminds me so much of the Tacoma waterfront. Going there as a child to watch the 4th of July show there were many piers that now are only rotting pilings. Your photo brings it back clearly. Great photo for theme day!
