Theme Day: Best of 2009

Today is a special Theme Day at City Daily Photo. Everyone who is participating has chosen their favorite photo of 2009, or what they think is their best. I narrowed it down to about 15 that I liked for various reasons. Some were technically better; many had interesting colors; some I loved as details; but as I clicked through them, I realized this photo conveyed a particular feeling of the town on the river I've come to call home. It all comes back to the water.

For those who can't get enough Astoria, I've got a pic on Tapirgal's Daily Image today, too.

Excellent choice, Sheryl. You can just feel the heavieness of the water and the bridge is in the background. MB

It's a great photo Sheryl and probably is as close to a "look through your eyes" as you could give us. Actually there's a lot to see in this photo too. The river, the bridge, the buildings and pilings... Excellent choice.

Great choice, Sheryl! Yes, it does indeed capture the mood of Astoria. Not just the Astoria bridge, but the perspective of being on the water at the mouth of the mighty Columbia River. I'm familiar with crossing the bar of the river as a former fisherman living in Pacific County. Hard to imagine what Lewis and Clark and crew must have really felt as they approached that point on the river, after their long, ardous journey.

I like this photo because the river looks like an ocean: so wide but the bridge is still able to cross it.

Oh yes, perfect choice for what I've seen of Astoria up to now. I hope I get to cross that bridge this year!

Astoria is defined by the water, and you've captured the city's essence perfectly in this shot, Sheryl! Good selection!

I'm voting for 1/08/10 for next year's entry. You do such a great job of showcasing your city!!!

What I so like about this is we are somehow so close to the water yet we get this great sense of distance too to that amazing bridge.
