This bike rack is near the corner of 14th Street and Duane. Come to think of it, I don't know if other bike racks around town are of the same design. I'll have to keep my eyes open. There's one at Safeway that may be similar, but I don't remember its being green. How are bikes tethered on the street in your town?

since the streets are so steep it is hard to be a bike person there. such bike racks are not that bicycle friendly. bikes tend to flop over with those
It's the Loch Ness monster! Nessie! ;-)
Have a wonderful trip!
Rather strange looking bike rack, methinks. Takes up half the sidewalk. But it's better than nothing...and if Astoria is making biking easier for its citizens that's a good thing.
We use trees. Unless they're occupied by dogs of the male species. ;-)
Leaving tomorrow, heh? Boy, are you gonna have fun!
I like that it's painted green-- a good way to promote green thinking! We are a bicycle-friendly town as well, but come to think of it I couldn't tell you what any of our bike racks look like... except most usually have at least one bike parked there.
I'm used to seeing this style around here. I'm going to have to come up with some local shots of bikes at the hitching post one of these days. Then we can compare.
I noticed another of these on Marine Drive right in front of the Merry Time. I know it's always been there, but never even noticed it until your post!
They tried these things here, but in few day they were wrecked by parking cars.
