Steam Locomotive Restoration Shop

Astoria, Oregon ~ December 3, 2011

Anyone familiar with Astoria will recognize this place, although it doesn't beg for your attention the way the bridge or a big ship does. The shop is situated on Marine drive just before you get to the traffic circle heading west. The photo is not elegant or artistic, but I assume that not every town has one of these along the main drag. The sign says, "Visitors Welcome." I'll have to stop in someday if the sign is still current.

Has anyone been there?

I hope you do stop by one day. I'd love to see inside. Looks like an interesting place!

I don't think there is a steam locomotive restoration shop in Ocala, and I can't think of anywhere in Florida that I might have seen one! I guess I'll have to go to Astoria!

It will be interesting to see if the "welcome" sign is current or if you're met by a couple of big Dobermans! :-)

I havent been in there for a while. There was hope that it could run in conjunction with the trolley. Last I heard they had completed fixing the tender. They also own a couple of old passenger cars which are on a siding west of the repair shop.
