Cecil

Astoria, Oregon ~ November 9, 2011

I know there's a story here, and probably many. Hopefully some of you will help me out. I've seen the wooden version of Cecil. Last time I noticed, he was in a store on Marine Drive. He's an impressive beast, whatever his history.

That is so funny. I'd love to know the story. It isn't the kind of icon that one would normally associate with a food emporium!

You're back! Yeah!

Many years ago, a dear friend of mine Mark Ludlow, an intelligent and multi-gifted person carved this serpent as a long table for the Pier 11 restaurant/bar. The restaurant sold several times and in the last sale the carving wasnt included. Now the previous owner has taken the restaurant back and has probably put the wooden artwork back and has marketed the "new" restaurant around it. I don't know who came up with the name Cecil, which I never felt was particularly apt,but that is just a reflection of my taste.

I would love to see him in person. It's wonderful that Lee knew of his history!

The Trolley Stop closed, Cecil was apparently sold into anonymity. Nobody here knows what happened to him.
