Bulk Avenir, Oslo

Astoria, Oregon ~ November 4, 2011

The ships have such interesting names, although this one is not the most romantic. It's also fun to observe the place of registry. I think the most common port name I see is Panama, but there are others; it could be fun to make a list. This one happens to be Oslo. This ship is not traveling up or down river, but is "swinging on the hook" (rotating on its anchor chain) as the tide in the river turns.

I love this shot - the mist coming off the water making the ship a mystery - wonderfully framed by equally mysterious structures on land ... this is wonderful!

This is gorgeous - the ship, the colors, the mist, the water...

Your post gave me the pleasure of playing w shiptracker. Your ship is now 150 miles west of Ocean Park Washington. Its destination is kr kan which appears to be in Norway. Holy crap will that be a long journey around Africa or maybe through the Suez Canal I guess. I think it is full of wheat. Who knows maybe it is going first to Asia, unloading and then going home.

Oh, I love this photo! As Clytie said, the framing and the contrasts are lovely. I also like Lee's idea of tracking the ship. ;-)
