This image is fifth in a current series on the Astoria Column. Here is the door that greets all who have climbed the steps to the top. Although it's pretty basic and functional, it does have some charm. I like the wood panels, and I'm glad to be greeted by something other than a flat, characterless, steel door. And it has a message: "You made it! Step through and see what lies beyond. It will be worth the trouble."

Looks like it could be just a smidge longer.
I agree, we need some wood. A small wood finishing often glorifies even the dullest quarters!
Ah, an American door handle or do you call it a knob? Nice panelling, can't wait to see what comes next!
Actually, I'm quite surprised and like you I think I would be pleased to meet this after risking my life climbing a bunch of stairs...
...most doors at the top of towers are, as you say, cold, cold, steel and ugly as sin!
This door surprised me too. I wasn't looking for anything wood. Okay, the way I see it the next shot should be a good one.
Beautiful and lovely shot !! Nice post !!Unseen Rajasthan
great series, Sheryl. The eerie glow is great but what could be behind the door? BTW the door itself is very nice. Love the colors. MB
