Kayaking in January

Astoria, Oregon ~ January 10, 2011

I glanced out the window yesterday in time to catch a rare sight - two or three kayakers on the river in the middle of winter. By the time I got my camera, the person (or persons) in front in the bright yellow parka(s) had gone behind the building. I checked the temperature, and it was 39 degrees F. Brrrrr.

I would love to kayak in the Columbia the next time I visit Astoria area. I regularly kayak on the Hudson River (not now as it is iced over)30 miles south of Albany, NY, and love the sport. This is my first comment on your blog Sheryl, tho' I've checked it daily since I first discovered it in August '09. I LOVE it!

Somebody needs to educate foolish people like the woman in the photograph.

Brave souls. Has to be cold in there-- even if they aren't wet!

I guess you aren't losing any sleep over Oregon's loss to Auburn. The ducks tried and even tied. In the end, it was good college football fun. We were cheering for the south, of course. Not to mention Auburn is one of our alma maters!

Looks fun anyway! Hope they don't tip over into the water.
