I've been lax this week dealing with business stuff. Turns out it's time to build a whole new web store ASAP (mine is 17 years old), and that is a huge job. I'm also dealing with insurance stuff. Did you know that if most of your sales are online and you pay an employee $500 per month you have to pay Worker's Comp at the same rate as if you had warehouses and forklifts? Yup. Turns out, it's true. That's my rant for today. Enjoy Amy's fantastic photo! Hope you are all having a great weekend.

Fortunately, there was no loss of life. The Iredale has been on my photographic bucket list for a few months. Although it’s been photographed thousands of times over the past century, it still manages to inspire the imaginations of photographers. The day I went was no exception; there were at least seven other people photographing it while I was there."

Hello Everyone,
This is Sheryl. I want to thank Cyndi Mudge for her time, effort, and vision in keeping this blog going and posting her visual record of Astoria for most of the past year. Even though we all live in the same town, it's always fascinating to see what interests different photographers or how they view the same locations. It's been fun to see Astoria through the eyes of another person. 
I will be posting a number of my own photos again, and I am also interested in finding other photographers who would like a showcase for a week's worth of their images. I will be having guest weeks, so send me your photos any time. Or if you have fewer than seven, that can work, too. If you took that one great shot that you'd like everyone to see, send it along :-) I won't have space for absolutely everything, but I do want to showcase photos by people other than myself. Thank you for your patience and allowing me this puppy break. 
 I've had to temporarily suspend the daily photos due to an overwhelming amount of work that includes volunteering for the 2013 Commercial Fishermen's Festival taking place this weekend, opening  a new business managing the Astoria Event Center, raising four puppies my mama dog Greta gave birth to six weeks ago, and of course,overseeing the Astoria Sunday Market during a busy time. 
 My ability to tour the community to take photos has been limited this past month as I adjust to living in the house of poo.
Happily, puppies are nearly ready for their shots then in just two weeks ready for their forever homes.  The puppies have been noisy, messy, chaotic fun.  My wall-to-wall carpeting did not survive.

Highliners!

Hammond Marina, Oregon - September 2013 These are Highliners posing following the 2012 Captain Phil Harris Highliner Competion at the Commercial Fishermen's Festival.  Highliners are what commercial fishermen call the top fishermen in the fleet.  The 2013 Commercial Fishermen's Festival takes place at Hammond Marina this weekend, September 14 & 15.  The Festival celebrates one of the traditional industries of our community and we hope to see some of you there!

Whose Doors are These?

Astoria Event Center ~ August 2013

Love these doors and the stained glasswork above!  This is the Astoria Event Center.  The Astoria Event Center and adjacent Shipyard Bar & Grill was built in 1924 after the disastrous fire of December 1922.  The facility was purchased in 2007 by Fred and Chrissy VanHorn, who invested a great deal into the redevelopment of the interior.  New owners are taking over at the end of the month and the facility will be managed by my newly formed company, Columbia Bar Productions, LLC! </end of shameless plug>
