Astoria, Oregon ~ November 19, 2012
With local high winds, that's a good question. My recycling bin (above with the red lid) was blown onto the neighboring lot. The trash can (same design, but with a black lid) was in the middle of the River Walk another few yards away, and would have blocked traffic if there had been any. Wind and rain continue. I love this weather, and as far as I know, the damage is only of the nuisance variety. These lightweight cans make excellent wind-catchers.

I would guess that other trash and recycling cans were also blown around. Same thing happens here. I've given up on the can and just put out a big plastic bag. So far no critters have torn in apart. :-)
This reminds me of the tornado that took place in southern Portugal a couple of days ago. Plain awful, I can't believe how everyone survived.
How come I don't remember the bins?!
After living thru the "normal" winter storms in Astoria no one gets any sympathy from me here in Bend when there a gusts to 40mph. Other than garbage cans in the streets we have tumbleweeds!
Ah yes the rain and the winds. That's what is going on here too. I love it too. Spoken like a true PNWer. MB
This happens even here with strong winds, but sometimes it also move around the heavier dumpsters...
Someone stole our garden waste bin. Now we have to buy the paper bags for leaves and such. They are very strict about waste pickup in Toronto. If you put something in the wrong place, they won't pick up at all.
