Jewell Meadows, Oregon ~ December 3, 2011
Here's another of the critters living in Jewell Meadows besides the elk seen in an earlier post. I couldn't have told you what a sapsucker was until I looked it up, but a sapsucker is a kind of woodpecker. The "woodpecker" part I could have guessed. Take a look at his handiwork on that tree! The red-breasted sapsucker lives all along the West Coast of North America from the southern tip of Alaska to Baja California in Mexico.
I too have no idea about a sapsucker, but I also get the woodpecker bit.
ReplyDeleteThat's the first ever sapsucker I have seen.
ReplyDeleteThere seem to be several different kinds of woodpeckers. We had some similar to this in So. Florida and they were very damaging to our palm trees!
ReplyDeleteNice photos, Sheryl!
Ummmm...I should have good camera! ;)
ReplyDeleteFine shot!!
very nice photos...thanks Sheryl...:)
ReplyDeleteHah! It must be through blogging that I knew a sapsucker was a woodpecker... but pecker seems more appropriate than sucker, that's for sure! Look at them holes! He's a beauty in coloration, but that sure is a mean eye he's giving you! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little guy! Love him. :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent picture. Be sure to send it to Emilio. He will also be so proud of your vision.
